Adding YouTube Video to Blackboard

YouTube has grown to be one of the largest collections of educational material available on the web. Videos can be utilized to spark a discussion, demonstrate an activity, review foundational materials, or highlight current events.

  1. From within a Blackboard Content Area, select the YouTube Video option from the Mashups section of the Build Content Menu
  2. Enter a search term, and then select the Go button
  3. The list of results will include a brief description of the video and a run time. Press the Select button to select a specific YouTube video.
  4. Optional—Enter a description for the video
  5. In the Mashup Options section, the pull-down menu will allow you to specify how the video is displayed—as a Thumbnail, Link, or Embedded Player. Select Submit at the bottom of the page to continue.
  6. An embedded Video will allow the students to view the video directly within Blackboard

If you would like to use a specific video on YouTube:

  1. Select the Share this Video link at the bottom of the video on YouTube and copy the Video ID portion of the link (YeutC1WN6dc)
  2. Within the YouTube Mashup Tool, paste the Video ID in the search field and select Go
  3. Your video will be displayed at the top of the search results

Making Your Course Material Available 24/7

This workshop will provide an introduction to lecture capturing using three different tools: ECHO360 Personal Capture, iSpring, and Jing. These programs allow you to create narrated course materials that are viewable across multiple operating systems. Other features include the ability to provide information about the lecture file, including author contact, logos, and various sorting views. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn how to capture your course content so that students can view it as a reinforcement or review tool for upcoming tests.

Hybrid Learning Activities

Friday, February 15
Designing and teaching a hybrid course involves a delicate balance between online and face-to-face activities that work best when they are ultimately woven together seamlessly. In this workshop, we explored and practiced combining familiar best practices like student learning outcomes with new tools for integrating the online and face-to-face portions of a hybrid class.

Utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER)

Open Educational Resources (OER) reside in the public domain and are free to use for teaching and learning. Within these repositories are a variety of multimedia, learning objects, tutorials etc. that offer quick way to enhance any topic. Websites such as National Geographic, Merlot, and Kahn Academy provide tutorials, multimedia, simulations and even assignments that can be easily added to any hybrid course, creating a richer learning experience. Certain OER’s lend themselves to specific disciplines while others are inclusive to all disciplines. During this workshop we will explore several OER’s and how they can be used to enhance your hybrid course.
